Focus Areas
Location
The Highlander Center is a social justice leadership training school and cultural center in Appalachia that has, for over 85 years, supported grassroots leaders and movements for civil rights, labor, and environmental justice across the U.S. South.
Volunteers contribute by attending and assisting with Highlander workshops and gatherings (providing logistical help, childcare, or interpretation), spreading popular education tools like songbooks and zines to local community groups, helping maintain the Highlander grounds and library, and organizing local study circles that extend Highlander’s teachings on movement history and organizing strategies.
